Working for a range of different institutions in the field of culture and education has shown me what I am good at and enjoy doing: communicating history and social perspectives – across cultures and time, through exhibitions, lectures, and texts.

Alb-Donau-Kreis

10/2020 – now

As head of the Public Relations Office, Daniela Yvonne Baumann is responsible for all activities relating to the public perception of the district administration. Among other activities, she edited several book and film projects dedicated to specific aspects of county politics. At the same time, she supports the local government in dealing with its art collection and advises on new acquisitions and exhibition projects.


Stadthaus Ulm

10/2019 – now

In her capacity as a freelance project manager and curator, Daniela Yvonne Baumann frequently organizes photo exhibitions for the Stadthaus Ulm. The focus of her interest is on artistic positions addressing socio-political issues either in a documentary or conceptual approach, understanding photography as a means for social change.


The Walther Collection

05/2015 – 10/2020

Being the director of The Walther Collection in Neu-Ulm, Germany, Daniela Yvonne Baumann has organized numerous photography exhibitions, including Structures of Identity: Photography from The Walther Collection, an exhibition that toured the United States, Mexico, Spain, and the Netherlands. She co-edited the catalog Recent Histories: Contemporary African Photography and Video Art, which was named one of the ten best photography books of the year by The New York Times Magazine in 2017 and has been nominated for the 2018 ICP Infinity Award in the category “Critical Writing and Research.” In 2020, she contributed to the anthology Imagining Everday Life: Engagements with Vernacular Photography, which won the ParisPhoto Aperture PhotoBook Awards as “Photography Catalogue of the Year.”


HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd

In this position as adjunct lecturer, Daniela Yvonne Baumann held weekly lectures on design and media history, computer history, and the history of graphic design for students of different semesters.


HfG-Archive

02/2010 – 05/2015

As assistant to the head of the archive, Daniela Yvonne Baumann supported the conception, organization and implementation of exhibitions at all stages and was also involved in the planning of supporting programs and the publication of accompanying materials. In 2013, together with Dr. Martin Mäntele, she was appointed curator for the conception and installation of a new permanent exhibition on the eventful history of the Ulm School of Design.

In addition, Daniela Yvonne Baumann was commissioned by the ifa Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations to curate several stations of the traveling exhibition "ulmer models—models after ulm: Ulm School of Design 1953–1968" in Spain, Montenegro, India, and The Philippines.
